Adeel Nazir, 18, passed away at Mayo Hospital on Friday. A resident of Malipura, Adeel was admitted to Mayo Hospital a few weeks ago in a poor condition. While the victim’s mother Shazia held police responsible for his death, the police have registered a case against a factory owner and his son for ‘torturing and poisoning’ the youth.
Police handed over Adeel’s body to Shazia without autopsy after which she and Malipura locals protested with the body on Bund Road. Shazia said Shafiqabad Police had arrested her son two weeks ago after registering a fake case against him on the complaint of factory owner Mateen Chauhdary. She said Adeel had returned home after being bailed out three or four days later. She alleged that Shafiqabad police tortured and fed Adeel poisoned food during custody because of which he fainted upon returning home, and was taken to the hospital.
Shafiqabad Police reached the protest site and negotiated with the protesters. They laterregistered a case against Mateen and his son Yousaf for torturing and poisoning Adeel.
