LAHORE – The Lahore High Court Thursday issued notices to the State Bank of Pakistan governor and the federal government, seeking a report filed against the cancellation of large-sized Rs 500 notes.
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, while hearing the case remarked that it needed to be known what necessitated the State Bank to cancel the large-sized Rs 500 notes, adding that if the decision lacked logical reasoning, it would be considered unlawful. He also observed that with the government already said to be in a financial crisis, the printing of new notes would incur a huge, unnecessary cost. The petitioner demanded the government’s decision of canceling the said currency notes be put aside, as he strongly believes this move is based on malafide intent, as the respondents by that means, would get a chance to print more currency notes without caring for the foreign reserves and the plant money.
medical entry-test policy: In a petition made by students against the entry-test policy of medical colleges, the Lahore high Court on Thursday sought reply from the Punjab government, Pakistan medical and dental Council (PMDC), University of Health Sciences (UHS) and 22 medical colleges and universities, till October 20. The court of Justice Azmat Saeed passed the order on a petition filed by six female students of FSc, submitting that the entry test policy be set aside, as it had set up a parallel education system in the country with mushroom growth of entry-test preparation institutes and colleges.
