A 16-year boy, who was allegedly burned after severe torture by police, passed away at Allied Hospital here on Friday.
According to details, Inspector Muhammed Saeed arrested Azeem of Faisalabad’s Chak-7 on suspicion of theft on September 9. Azeem was doused in petrol and set ablaze after alleged torture in police custody.
Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the death of the youth and directed Punjab inspector general of police to submit a report on the mishap within 24 hours.
City Police Officer Rai Tahir, taking notice of the mishap, suspended and arrested three police personnel, including Saeed.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah assured the bereaved family that the culprits would be meted out with strict punishment after their culpability is substantiated.
