On requisition of opposition parties, Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Rana Iqbal on Wednesday summoned the PA session on Friday, October 14, at 3pm. The joint opposition in the PA on last Wednesday submitted a requisition for immediately convening the assembly session to address the worsening condition of dengue in the province.
Analysts claimed that the 31st PA session will be a stormy one, as the joint opposition had prepared to corner Shahbaz Sharif’s government over several other key issues apart from its failure to control dengue, including dissolution of the provincial assembly to avoid Senate elections, law and order in Punjab, formation of the Seraiki province and failure of the provincial government to recover former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer’s son Shahbaz Taseer. Earlier, the session had been adjourned on September 16 in aftermath of the dengue outbreak in Punjab and floods in Sindh after a joint declaration by all political parties in the PA.
