Fazl may have to face Imran in next elections

JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman may have to face tough time in the next general elections as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) is considering fielding party chief Imran Khan against Fazl in Dera Ismail Khan’s NA-24 constituency. Reliable sources within PTI told Pakistan Today on Wednesday that a circle within the party had been persuading the party’s Central Executive Council to field Imran against the JUI-F chief as there was a large vote bank of the PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and especially in that particular constituency.
They said there were a large number of aggravated people in the area who wanted a change, adding that owing to PTI boycott’s of last general elections not only the majority of voters avoided using their right of vote but also opposed Fazl’s candidature.
The party sources added that the PTI has already started preparations for the general elections and all its units were in the process of deciding potential candidates throughout the country. However, an enthusiastic response from the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had resulted in pressure to field Imran as a candidate from one or more constituencies there.
Critics were of the view that contesting elections was not a child’s play and if Imran decided to contest against Fazl, he would be in deep trouble in the constituency.
Meanwhile, after getting permission to hold public moot at the Minar-e-Pakistan on October 30, the PTI has started consultations and is working to make the public gathering successful as part of its ‘Save Pakistan’ campaign.
