City exhibits portraiture and calligraphic art

The Al Hamra Gallery opened an oil painting and ceramics’ exhibition and by Zamarrud Safdar, head of Fine Arts Department in the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU). The exhibition was titled Harmony of Colours and Emotions Reflect Moods. The show opened on October 12.
A large number of the students from LCWU Fine Arts department showed up to see the work, which was displayed on the upper floor of the gallery as well. Safdar’s work was interestingly portrayed. Many praised the two oil paintings of late Benazir Bhutto followed by one of Punjab Governor Sardar Abdul Latif Khosa, which were praised by many. The exhibition will continue till October 15.
Separately, the Reviver’s Galleria is holding a group exhibition of calligraphic paintings titled The Art of Calligraphy which opened on October 12, expressing the art form in vivid, bright colours.
In the exhibition, there are as many as 48 selected calligraphic paintings of known artists on display. These include Amjad Butt, Bin Qalander, Chitra Pretam, Mashkoor Raza, Mussarat Arif, Riaz Rafi and Tariq Javed who belong to Lahore, Karachi and other parts of the country. Their form of calligraphy was based on verses and words from the Holy Quran rendered in vibrant colours on canvas. While each artist used different mediums to paint, the most common usage was of oil and acrylic. A large number of other artists, art students, art lovers and collectors from everywhere came to view and appreciate the calligraphic art.
Owner and curator Sara Anjum welcomed the guests and accompanied them. She said that more solo and group painting exhibitions were already in the pipeline which would attract the attention of the art lovers. Anjum said it was an honour for her and the gallery that the new art season had opened with group exhibition of calligraphic paintings.
She expressed confidence that art lovers in general and calligraphic art lovers in particular would continue visiting the Revivers Galleria in large numbers, as long as the exhibition was in progress.
The calligraphy exhibition will continue for a fortnight till October 25 providing the art lovers the opportunity to view and appreciate calligraphic art work at the Revivers Galleria which will remain open on Sunday.
