Thousands of students of the federal government colleges are paying price of the strike of their teachers, who are not taking classes since September 3. On Tuesday more than 200 protesting teachers assembled outside the Federal Government Commerce College from where they took out a rally to press the government for their up-gradation in line with the announcement made by the prime minister in October last year. They reiterated that they would continue the boycott till their demands were not met.
“Teachers community has been forced by the government to boycott the classes and to mark the World Teachers’ Day as a black day. We are very well aware of students’ loss but we have no option except boycotting the classes,” said Professor Tahir Mahmood, an office bearer of the Federal Government Teacher Association (FGCTA). Around 1,500 college teachers associated with the Federal Directorate of Education have been protesting for the last two weeks. In first stage, they partially boycotted the classes followed by staging protest demonstration; however, they boycotted all classes since September 3.
