At least seven persons, including high-ranking government officials, were injured when unidentified militants attacked the venue of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor’s meeting with tribal elders at Kalaya, headquarter of Orakzai Agency, on Tuesday. The militants fired rockets soon after the arrival of Governor Barrister Masud Kausar. “Governor Kausar was to attend a briefing on law and order at the office of the political agent,” a Governor’s House official told Pakistan Today. He said the governor had arrived just before the attack.
Two rockets landed inside the venue of the public meeting, while the third landed near the helipad. Security forces are on the offensive against militants in various parts of Orakzai Agency since the past one-and-a-half years. Recently, Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Kayani had visited Orakzai t to attend a briefing regarding the clearance operation in the area.
