More than 90 percent to 95 percent of dengue patients are not in need of hospitalisation, and can be safely managed at home, said Pakistan Medical Society Chairman Dr Masood Akhtar Sheikh while addressing a workshop titled “Community’s Role In Dengue Prevention” held under the auspices of SAHARA for Life Trust, in collaboration with the Pakistan Medical Society, in Lahore. Sheikh said dengue could be diagnosed and treated as an OPD cases, and only those patients with a risk of DHF or DSS needed immediate monitoring and hospitalisation. The people putting unnecessary pressure on public sector hospitals were snatching the right of the really needy patients, and those unduly admitted in private sector hospitals were putting a heavy burden on the hospitals.
