Hayat seeks a chance to present RPPs’ ‘true picture’ before cabinet

Sticking to his guns against rental power plants (RPPs), Federal Minister for Housing and Works Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat has requested Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to defer RPPs item from the agenda of the today’s (Wednesday) cabinet meeting until the next meeting as he was on a pre-scheduled ex-Pakistan leave.
A summary for ‘Review of the Contractual Status of Six Rental Power Plants (RPPs) and Recommendations for their Processing’ by the Water and Power Ministry is on the agenda of cabinet meeting scheduled today (Wednesday). As Hayat is not attending the cabinet meeting, he has sent a letter to Prime Minister Gilani requesting him to defer the agenda item until the next cabinet meeting “to allow him an opportunity to present the true picture”. “It is requested that in view of the serious nature of this case, where billions of rupees of the Pakistani nation are at stake, this agenda item may be deferred to the next cabinet meeting where I would be honoured to place my views and the facts before the cabinet in order for all to have a balanced perspective of the real issue,” the federal minister said in the letter, a copy of which is available with Pakistan Today.
