FATA development project official killed in Hayatabad

An official of the FATA Rural Development Project was shot dead on Wednesday morning by unidentified militants in the Hayatabad area of Peshawar. Javed Akhtar, who worked as the project’s community programme manager, was killed on his way to his office in Jamrod, Khyber Agency. According to reports, unidentified persons initially attempted to kidnap him, but upon facing resistance opened fire and killed Akhtar on the spot.
Akhtar’s body was then transported to his native Darra village in the Swabi district, where he was buried in his ancestral graveyard. The 50-year-old Akhtar was known as an active member of the civil society and had worked with a number of international organisations. Four months ago, Akhtar’s son died of cancer.
