The federal cabinet is meeting today (Wednesday) with a heavy agenda primarily revolving around country’s chronic power crisis and will also consider proposals of two weekly holidays, besides likely approving a new levy on gas consumption. The federal cabinet is likely to approve proposed Gas Infrastructure Development Cess Bill, paving the way for the imposition of a new levy on gas consumption “over and above the fixed gas sale price” in order to generate funds to develop natural gas infrastructure for the imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline and Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India (TAPI) gas pipeline.
