Three more Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Members Provincial Assembly (MPAs) have announced their support for former Sindh home minister Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza regarding his stance against endorsing 2001’s local government (LG) system revival ordinance in the Sindh Assembly. Their announcement came soon after Mirza announced starting a province-wide campaign against the government’s plan of getting endorsement from the legislative house on the governor’s ordinance in the assembly session scheduled for October 20. PPP lawmakers Fayyaz Butt, Dr Sikandar Shoro and Humera Alwani issued a press release saying that they would not allow passing the LG bill. Following their open support, the number of MPAs supporting Mirza’s stance has reached seven, which also include Javed Hussain Shah, Nasrullah Baloch, Imran Zafar Leghari and Imdad Pitafi. Mirza claimed only the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and few PPP ministers support the revival of 2001’s LG system.
AMN COMMITTEE: Nobody can restrict activities of the People’s Amn Committee, said Mirza when asked about the Sindh government’s decision to ban the committee. “If someone has an objection over its name, it could be called the Awami Amn Committee,” Mirza added. KILLED: “If I am killed, MQM chief Altaf Hussain, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and Interior Minister Rehman Malik should be held responsible for it,” Mirza said. He said he has mentioned this in his will and handed it over to his family, and also conveyed the same information to President Asif Ali Zardari, Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

  1. Well done these three members of the provincial legislature. The time has come for the PPP legislators to speak their conscience. Hell with party discipline which is bartering away the rights of Sindhis just to placate the blackmailers. Enough is enough. The ordinance promulgated by the governor must be defeated and this should be an eye opener to the architect of stupid policy of reconciliation.
