A petition seeking registration of criminal cases against former Sindh home minister Zulfiqar Mirza and PML-N MNA Hanif Abbasi for attempting to create ethnic division among the people of Pakistan was filed in the Supreme Court on Monday.
The petition was filed by Malik Gul Zali Khan under human rights jurisdiction of the Supreme Court making the Federation of Pakistan, Mirza and Abbasi respondents.
The petitioner stated that Mirza held a news conference on July 13 in Karachi in which he targeted Muhajirs of Sindh through unethical words like “bkookay nangay” (hungry and unclothed) people and disgraced them.
He said Mirza again on July 14 made a speech through the electronic media for about one hour in which he used “unethical words” and tried to create ethnic division between Sindhis and Muhajirs, which he believed was a very dangerous act on his part for the existence of Pakistan, and amounted to terrorism. The petitioner said through anti-state activities, Mirza wanted to prove himself a as leader of Sindh.
He said Mirza also alleged that the Sindh governor was a “Bhagora” (absconder). “He ran away after committing some crimes and now has come back,” he said. The petitioner stated that such type of speeches would create ethnic division among the Sindhis and Muhajirs. He said Mirza violated articles 25 and 23. The petitioner stated that Abbasi also propagated similar views in a TV programme. He said Abbasi insulted Pashto-speaking people, saying that the Pakhtoons were mostly Rickshaw drivers and shoe polishers.
He said Abbasi also tried to gain sympathy of the Punjabis by using “soft words” for them. He said the MNA violated terms of Article 33. He said Mirza and Abbasi were liable to be prosecuted under the law and action was required to restrain them from creating ethnic division in the country.
