Former Sindh home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza claimed on Monday that he has garnered enough support to ensure that local government system bill is not passed in the Sindh Assembly.
“If the local bodies bill is tabled in Sindh Assembly, it will be strongly opposed with the support of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), PML-Quaid (PML-Q), National People’s Party (NPP) and Awami National Party (ANP),” said Mirza while talking to the media at PML-F chief Pir Pagara’s residence, Kingri House, on Monday.
“I am no more a member of the Sindh Assembly as my resignation has been accepted. I am free now and I will do what people of Sindh want. Today is the beginning.”
Earlier, Mirza had arrived at the Kingri House along with PPP MPAs Nasrullah Baloch, Javeed Shah, Imdad Pitafi and Imran Zaffar Leghari. They held a meeting with Pir Pagara to seek his support on opposing the Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO)-2001 in the provincial assembly.
After the meeting, Mirza claimed that he had obtained support from the MPAs of PPP, PML-F, PML-Q and ANP. The former minister stated that he was struggling to make the PPP strong and not weak.
“Those who want take action against my colleagues shall have to take the first step against me. No Sindhi person would allow anyone to harm Sindh’s interests,” Mirza added.
Criticising the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and its chief Altaf Hussain, Mirza said the MQM again took a cowardly step today as “they first organised a rally against me and then opened fire on the rally to level the blame on me”.
“But I will stop it now,” he declared.
It is worth mentioning that the Sindh Assembly session has been convened on October 20 and it is expected that a bill on the nazim system will be presented to convert it into an act.

  1. Zulfiqar Mirza is right. This LG Bill of MQM Nazims should not be passed as it will certainly increase the intensity of ethnic strife in Karachi and the rest of Sindh.
