Former Sindh home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza on Monday claimed that he had garnered enough support to ensure that the local government system bill was not passed in the Sindh Assembly.
“If the local bodies bill is tabled in Sindh Assembly, it will be strongly opposed with the support of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), PML-Quaid (PML-Q), National People’s Party (NPP) and Awami National Party (ANP),” said Mirza while talking to reporters at PML-F chief Pir Pagara’s residence, Kingri House. Earlier, Mirza had arrived at the Kingri House along with PPP MPAs Nasrullah Baloch, Javeed Shah, Imdad Pitafi and Imran Zaffar Leghari. They held a meeting with Pir Pagara to seek his support on opposing the Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO)-2001 in the provincial assembly. After the meeting, Mirza claimed that he had obtained support from the MPAs of PPP, PML-F, PML-Q and ANP. The former minister stated that he was struggling to make the PPP strong and not weak.
Mirza’s resignation: Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Khuhro said the resignation of Zulfiqar Mirza has been accepted. Addressing a press conference at Sindh Assembly on Monday, Nisar Khoro confirmed the resignation was penned by Zulfiqar Mirza himself and had accepted it after confirmation from Zulfiqar.
