A division bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday stayed the death sentence of former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer’s self-confessed assassin Malik Mumtaz Qadri until a final decision and issued notice to the state. The division bench of IHC comprising Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman and Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan admitted Qadri’s appeal for regular hearing against the death sentence awarded to him by the Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), and adjourned the case for an indefinite period.
Former chief justice of the Lahore High Court, Khawaja Muhammad Sharif appeared in court on behalf of Qadri, whose supporters also gathered outside the court premises and protested against the ATC decision. During the hearing, Khawaja Sharif requested the court to allow religious leaders to participate in the court’s proceedings, but the IHC chief justice refused, saying the court “cannot allow them, because the general public will also demand the same”.
Lawyers from across the country, including Justice (r) Mian Nazeer Akhtar, lawyer Tariq Dhamial and advocate Muhammad Rafeeq were present in the courtroom to defend Qadri. The appeal filed by Qadri’s counsels stated that under Section 6 of the Anti Terrorism Act, Qadri had not committed an act of terrorism by killing Salmaan Taseer. “The case was illegally entrusted to the ATC. The elements of terrorism as defined in Section 6 of the Anti Terrorism Act were completely lacking in the present case,” the petition stated.
Qadri’s counsels had contended on the last hearing that the trial court’s categorization of Qadri’s offense as terrorism was “completely arbitrary and baseless”. They submitted that there was no evidence that panic and sense of insecurity was created at the time of Taseer’s death, rather people were relieved. The petitioners pleaded that Qadri’s case did not fall under Section 302 of the PPC, as he had killed a “blasphemer”. The lawyers requested the court to declare ATC-II’s verdict illegal.
Talking to reporters, Justice (r) Khawaja Sharif confided that Qadri had written him a letter, requesting him to contest the case. He said he got the authority letter just one day ago and as the paper book had not been completed, the proceeding had been brief. Asked about his intentions to represent Qadri, Sharif said, “I have no personal motive for contending the case, I just want to satisfy God through such deeds.”

You people are called real bloody Dogs
let the law take its own course. he should be acquitted honourably, so that no says differently, particularly the Europeon NGSs.
The future direction, possibly the survival of Pakistan, as a nation and as a state, depends on the eventual outcome of this case.

koi aik non muslim agar apni ghalti ki wja say bhi mara jata hai tou propaganda shuru.aur nihayat afsus ka muqam hai k nam nihad musalman un ki wakalat karney mein agay agay hotey hain.kia sabit hota hai iss say.

Innocents kill here criminals live here
Good decision, law is law. Khoon Kay badlay khoon. That’s all I know. Think about victims family. How come some one kill, just because of his personal opinion?
I hereby announce a reward of Rs.1 Million to the person who shoots Qadri down like the dog he is. If you mutilate his body, I will pay extra.
Qadri is no muslim and neither is his cause a religious one. He is a murderer and needs a karmatic comeuppance. Anyone defending Qadri is only doing it for the fame (or infamy). I pray for the destruction of all mullahs, maulvis and mother$#$ers supporting Qadri and his kind.
good decision
some people are commenting furiosly
World Day Against the Death Penalty 2010 !………………..Abolish the death penalty in Pakistan!
Do we still want to follow the murderous footsteps of our grandgrandgrandgrandfather Habil`s crime and pass it on to our coming generations? We should not forget, that we are all are brothers and sisters, children of Adam and Hawa. The sin should be eradicated but surely not the sinner!
He must be executed asap. . . . .
We as a nation deserve Wrath of Allah s.w.t.
No, only you deserve Allah’s wrath for consciously being a grade A moron
"RELEGION IS AS RELIGION DOES" but did'nt this guy wanted to be hanged so that he can go meet is 72 virgins?????????????
You have a very incorrect understanding about Islam and cannot be blamed for it. The media image of Islam is dagger brandishing (sex starved) bearded men. Qadri fits that image. I invite you to read the works of Leopold Weiss (1990-92) an Austrian Polish Jewish man who reverted to Islam in 1929 (not 1926 as quoted in some texts) . His Muslim name was Muhammad Assad. I also invite you to read the works of Karen Armstrong especially her work "A History of God: The 4,000-Year Quest of Judaism, Christianity and Islam".
The society in Pakistan is polarised. This is not how it was in the 60s. Major societal changes took place in the 70s, especially in years during and after the soviet invasion of Afghanistan. This combined with a miserable lack of leadership has created a very unfortunate situation. This I can assure you will not last for ever.
There is new thought developing in Pakistan and gaining strength day by day. Pakistan will re-emerge as an economically strong and a vibrant welfare state.

SOLUTION OF CONTRAVER…..
Dont abuse on any Prophets of Allah, we should agree on islamic Law only.
WHO?
why we r talking about this law. firstly tell me, what is islam law about blasphemy?
i also am asking you, who is professional people(religious leader) about islam who decided about this law?
MY View !
in my point of view, It is not fight in favour of Mumtaz Qadri , it is fight against that lobby those want to useless/change 295-C law which is favour to all regilious parties in Pakistan.
He should be hanged ASAP. If his death sentence changed, others will be encouraged and such cases will be repeted in Pak.
More than 95% people in Pakistan is in favour of Mumtaz Qadri.
Those say , Qadri is Hero.
Those people say that Qadri has last option to kill him. No court was able to punish to Governer.
In this view, i agreed,
Mumtaz is Hero
good decision

Without going into the merits of what Salman Taseer stood for, the fact of the matter is that Mumtaz Qadri took law into his own hands. He has openly confessed to the crime. Now, we see an ex-Chief Justice Lahore High Court is defending him. To put it mildly, it is a shame.
do You know that our court is able to punished to Zardari, PPP leaders, PMLN leaders, MQM or other?
answer is no. no body cant punished becouse america supports them.
why should qadri punished when governer took law into his own hands????
