Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani approved the establishment of Intelligence Bureau (IB) Foundation on the pattern of the National Police Foundation and the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation on Monday. The newly-established IB Foundation will work for the benefit of all serving and retired employees of the IB. It will be a charitable institution similar in function to the National Police Foundation and the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation. The parliament would legislate to give legal cover to the proposed foundation. The National Police Foundation was established in March, 1975 as a Trust under the Charitable Endowments Act 1890 for the benefit of police personnel and their families. It is headed by a serving inspector general of police (IGP).
A committee of administration headed by Interior Division secretary, as its ex-officio chairman approves the annual budget, monitors the working of the foundation and lays down policy guidelines. Working of the committee of Administration is supervised by the board of directors. The objectives of the foundation include providing relief and help to police personnel, widows and their families in deserving cases and extend medical facilities for serving and retired beneficiaries and their dependents. The NPF also provides relief to the widows/heirs of police personnel who have died in line of duty.
