Fresh elections if Punjab Assembly dissolved, says Wattoo

Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan Affairs Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said if the Punjab Assembly is dissolved fresh elections will be held after imposing governor rule in the province. Wattoo was addressing media after inauguration of a sui gas provision project in Haveli Nolakha on Monday. He said the suggestion to dissolve the Punjab Assembly was not non-political and irresponsible.
He said Nawaz Sharif was contradicting himself by speaking about democracy and cutting the branch on which nest of democracy rests with his other arm. “If the Chief Minster Punjab dissolves the provincial assembly it would signal the political death of PML-N since it will be an undemocratic measure,” Wattoo said. He said President Zardari had given full autonomy to federating units. He said politicians should avoid speaking of the dissolution of assemblies in talk shows. He said the Pun jab government did not have the courage to hold local bodies’ polls in Punjab.
Babar Awan: Seperately, former Federal Law Minister and senior PPP leader Senator Babar Awan said the democratic process will not be allowed to derail even if PML-N members resign from both the National and Punjab Assemblies. Awan was speaking to media after addressing the Chakwal district bar association on Monday, Babar Awan said bye-elections will be held on all vacant seats as provided in law. The former Law Minister said the Unification bloc which had demanded the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly was part and parcel of the PML-N and the government is aware who had incited the demand.
