Two ANP men among six killed

Six persons, including two political activists, were killed in various areas of the city on Sunday.
Unidentified people on two motorcycles opened fire on the activists of the Awami National Party (ANP) outside the party’s ward office at Bilal Noorani Chowk of Sachal Town late Saturday night. Two ANP activists Jamal Khan and Zaman Khan were killed while another activist identified as Haider was injured in the incident. Separately, unidentified assailants opened fire on Ghulam Ali alias Gamma, an office-bearer of Karachi Goods Career Association.
The employees of the association staged a sit-in in front of the Karachi Press Club along with the victim’s body. The protesters later dispersed on the assurance of police that the killers would be arrested soon.
In another incident, two friends Ghafar and Zulfiqar were killed by unidentified people at Jahangir Road.
Police also found a body in a rickshaw in the jurisdiction of Shah Latif police station. The victim was identified as Aftab.
OPERATIONS: Law enforcement agencies arrested 35 persons during a surgical operation in Pak Colony on Saturday night.
Over 250 police personnel in four armoured vehicles and 30 mobile vans cordoned off the area.
Police recovered four TT pistols and ammunition from the arrested people’s custody. However, the residents complained that police personnel forced their way into their homes and the weapons they confiscated were legal.
More than 100 people protested in front of the Pak Colony police station after the operation ended.
“We will file a case against police officials in the court as we were mentally and physically tortured by police,” said Amjad, who was released after being arrested.  Sources claimed that two close relatives of a former member of the Balochistan Assembly were also taken into custody and were shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
