The Lahore High Court (LHC) has banned Senior Federal Minister and PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi from an election rally in Sahiwal. Elahi was to address the rally held in connection with PP-220 (Sahiwal-1) by-polls.
The court also summoned PML-Q candidate Pir Muzaffar Shah Khagga and DPO Sahiwal on October 15th.
Rana Asad Advocate, brother of Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan, pleaded before the court that according to Election Commission’s election rules, no federal or provincial minister could attend a public gathering. He added that Pervaiz Elahi’s address to the rally would tantamount to the use of government machinery for casting influence on polls and therefore it must be stopped.
The LHC accepted the request and restrained the minister.
