Former Lahore High Court chief justice Khawaja Sharif will defend Mumtaz Qadri, the accused killer of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer, a private TV channel reported on Monday.
The hearing of the appeal against the death sentence of Qadri will be heard by a two-member bench led by Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman.
The panel of Qadri’s lawyers including Khawaja Sharif, Malik Jawad, Malik Rafiq and Shuja-ur-Rehman, will be appearing before the court. Qadri signed his appeal papers today in Adiala Jail.
Qadri confessed to shooting Taseer dead outside an up market coffee shop close to his residence in the leafy capital Islamabad on January 4. He said he objected to the politician’s calls to amend the blasphemy law.

  1. Khawaja Sharif, a PML-N worker even when he was Chief Justice Punjab High Court, has announced to defend Mumtaz Qadri, a self-confessed assassin. Rana Sanaullah proclaimed Salman Taseer as WAJIBUL QATL. It is very easy to connect the dots and catch the real murderers from a Raiwind Palace.

  2. 1) Rana Sanaullah pronounces Salman Taseer Wajibul Qatl.
    2) Punjab Police commando, Mumtaz Qadri, kills Salman Taseer in full public view and confesses.
    3) He is convicted and awarded death sentence.
    4) Mumtaz Qadri files appeal.
    5) Khawaja Sharif, ex-Chief Justice Punjab High Court and die-hard worker of PML-N announces to defend the convict. It is a shame that an ex-Chief Justice is defending a self-confessed assassin who took law into his own hands.
    6) PML-N links with banned militant outfits is no secret.
The above facts leave no doubt to determine the main conspirators of murder of a great man whose only fault was to talk against a black law widely misused.

  3. I have twice tried to post comment but it is not approved. I feel helpless. Why do we avoid facing facts?

  4. Mumtaz Qadri has confessed to murder and the courts have no other option but to sentence him to death. If Qadri is so convinced that he has done an act condoned by Almighty, than why is he afraid of death. He should accept it smilingly and tell the court that he has no desire to file an appeal. If he does,nt than certainly he and his supporters cannot claim to have divine blessings.

  5. It is just a ploy to keep this case in the front burner so that controvercy keep this nation in turmoil. Those in favor and against his daeth will be doing no service to the countery. The dog who killed a man should die and hope Allah(SWT) forgives him.

  6. What can you expect from a country where a ex chief justice is ready to defend a murderer who has publicly confessed to his crime !!
