Iran offers flood relief support

The Iranian government has offered to provide complete assistance to the Sindh government in rehabilitating the rain- and flood-hit people along with reconstruction of infrastructure in the affected areas. The offer was forwarded by a delegation of the Iranian government that reached Thatta on Friday to witness the damages caused by last month’s devastating rains and floods and chalk out a plan to assist the government. The delegation was headed by Hassan Qadmi, deputy minister and head of the Iran Crisis Management Organisation. The other member was Mohammad Farid Latifi, deputy chief of Organisation of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction.
CERF: The Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has allocated $17.6 million to provide water, food, shelter and healthcare to thousands of families affected by rains and floods in Pakistan. “We are grateful for the immediate funding provided by the CERF, especially with UN relief stocks running low. This gives UN agencies flexible resources to continue helping save lives,” said Timo Pakkala, Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan, in a statement issued on Friday. The CERF was established by the United Nations General Assembly five years ago to provide funding for humanitarian emergencies faster and in a more equitable manner.
