Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Nisar Ali Khan on Friday said a strong reaction would take place in the country if the government did not implement the directions of the Supreme Court given in its decision regarding improvement in law and order in Karachi.
“The decision of the SC is far reaching and its operative part includes a number of directions which the government has to implement otherwise a strong reaction will take place in the country, including in Karachi,” Nisar said while addressing a press conference outside the Parliament House. He said his party would ask the prime minister in the National Assembly on Monday when it was going to implement the decision of the court.
He said peace retuned to Karachi because of the Supreme Court as it put many government departments and political parties in the dock during hearing of the case. Nisar said the decision also contained names of some government officials who were posted on political basis and contributed to deterioration of law and order in the city and it was the responsibility of the government to ensure in future that no one should be posted on political grounds.
On the government announcement of ending load shedding and releasing Rs 10 billion in this regard, Nisar said the announcement proved that load shedding did not take place as Pakistan did not have the capacity to generate power per the demand. “Now question arises if electricity can be generated per the demand, why did load shedding take place in the recent years and caused irreparable losses to the national economy?” Nisar said.
The leader of the opposition also said Rs 10 billion were released after countrywide demonstrations. “If the protests are the way to get the public’s issues resolved, the government has no right to remain in power.” He said he would also question the government about its strategy regarding uninterrupted power supply when this Rs 10 billion was exhausted.
Nisar said his party wanted to raise all those issues today (Friday) but many members of his party failed to reach the Parliament House in time due to traffic jams owing to demonstrations by certain religious elements. Nisar also hailed the announcement of the Pakistan Army that no operation would be conducted in the future. “We welcome this decision as it falls in line with the APC resolution but such announcement should have come from the civilian government instead from the army.”
