Top seed Aqeel Khan thrashed Faizan Khurram by 2-0 in the pre-quarterfinal of the Men’s Singles event of the 27th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championship to storm into the quarterfinal here at PTF Tennis Complex on Thursday. The final scoreline was 6-1 and 6-3. In the Men’s Singles event, Shahzad Khan, Mohammad Abid, Asim Shafik, Imran Shaukat, Yasir Khan, Hamid-ul-Haq and Jalil Khan also moved into the quarterfinals after beating their respective rivals. The quarterfinals will be played today at same venue in which Hamid will face Jalil Khan, Asim Shafik will face Muhammad Abid, Aqeel will face Shahzad Khan and Imran Shaukat will face Yasir Khan. Top seed Aqeel Khan was in fine touch to show the exit to Faizan Khurram after defeating him in straight sets with the score-line of 6-1 and 6-3 by playing powerful game from the baseline. Second seed Jalil Khan and Yasir Khan also proved too good for their opponents and beat them without any resistance. Muhammad Abid won his match against Raja Shahid without conceding a single game in both sets. Senior player Hamid-ul-Haq and Asim Shafik also comfortably won their matches. In the Boys’ Under-18, Muhammad Abid, Faizan Khurram, Muhammad Mudassir and Ahmed Babar qualified for the semifinals. Pakistan Junior U-18 No 1 Muhammad Mudasir out played fourth seed Kashan-ul-Haq in a well-contested two set match. The final score-line was 6-2 and 7-6(3). While unseeded Ahmed Babar defeated Rizwan Ahmed in straight set by 6-1, 6-1. Later, in the Boys’ Under-14, all the top seeded players moved into the semifinals after winning their matches in straight sets. In the ladies event, Saba Aziz, Iman Qureshi, Meheq Khokhar and Sara Mansoor reached the semifinals after knocking out their opponents without conceding a single game in both sets.
