PML-Q leaders, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Pervez Elahi had used resignations option to serve their personal interest as resignation was not sought from any member of parliamentary party in writing, well-placed sources told Online.
A PML-Q leader, who was privy to parliamentary party meeting, told Online on the condition of anonymity that Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, while addressing a parliamentary party meeting at the residence of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said that objectives for which they had joined government were not being met. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani don’t give importance to PML-Q ministers and members therefore, we should quit government and tender resignations, he added.
He said that Chaudhry brothers later released the report to media without obtaining resignations in writing to mount pressure on government that PML-Q had decided to part ways with government due to its failure in addressing the problems facing the people.
Sources further said that Chaudhry brothers wanted Aiwan-e-Sadr should contact them following issuance of statement. Later, President Zardari called Chaudhry brothers at the Aiwan-e- Sadr next day. Chaudhry Shujaat withdrew resignation decision on the assurance held out by President Zardari.
When contacted by Online, the PML-Q spokesman, Kamil Ali Agha told his party’s legislators that reservations with reference to government were just and resignation’s decision was also final. However, the decision of giving resignations was taken back after President Asif Ali Zardari assured for allaying the concerns, he stated.
