An additional district and sessions judge acquitted three people while awarding a death sentence and life imprisonment to two convicts in a murder case, following which, around five men from the accused party beat-up one member of the aggrieved party. The accused party thrashed Muhammad Siddique, husband of the complainant, Nighat Siddique, mother of the deceased, Ghulam Murtaza, after additional district and Sessions Judge Malik Tariq Mehmood Zarghaam had passed his verdict. Eyewitnesses said Siddique wanted to enter the courtroom when the judge was announcing the punishment. He tried to enter by force but officials deployed at the gate of the courtroom deterred him.
The accused party, after hearing the verdict, came out of the courtroom and flared up when they saw Siddique outside the courtroom and began beating him up. Siddique’s henchmen managed to flee. Police at nearby courts and court staff took Siddique into the courtroom. Some of the staff, policemen, litigants, photo copiers and others ran to take cover in safer places. On Wednesday, the judge awarded convict Muhammad Aslam a death sentence and sentenced Ghulam Shabbir to life imprisonment after they were proven guilty in a murder case. The judge fined Aslam Rs 0.4 million and Shabbir Rs 0.2 million.
Three people, Muhammad Arshad, Walayat Ali, Farmayesh Ali were released. Aslam, Shabbir, Arshad, Walayat and Farmayesh had killed Ghulam Murtaza. An old enmity was stated as the reason behind the murder. Later, the Batapur Police Station registered a case against the aforementioned people under sections 302,149,109 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
