MAJU holds Drama Competition Fall 2011

Technically and socially speaking, the spirit of education is not confined to enabling the students to get through a specific level of examination by teaching them a stipulated syllabus in a formal academic environment and a traditional system. Instead, in its broader and modern scope, it stands for a compact campaign to produce more and more talented, confident and professionally finished individuals for the society. So, the role of extracurricular activities like creative arts, sports, literary pursuits and social work has acquired a pivotal core in this regard.
Keeping in view the literary and creative needs of the youth and the students, the management of the Muhammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) recently organised the Drama Competition Fall 2011. The event held at the university auditorium was successfully arranged by event coordinators Maliha Rao, Sarwat Sultana and Saad Hamid Usmani. The event that started with a tribute to Moin Akhter was a full-day marathon with four artistically created plays and a series of melodious songs. All the students worked hard and demonstrated their talent and skills in different genres of performing and creative arts.
Waseem Ansari, who impersonates former president Pervez Musharraf in a TV programme; TV/stage artiste Ayaz Khan; and TV/film reviewer Muttahir Ahmed Khan rendered their services as judges; whereas Raheel Akhter hosted the ceremony. Ansari and Khan expressed their views about the merits and demerits of the performance of different students and appreciated their work and talent. In the end, the honourable judges declared the winners in different categories and gave away the awards to the deserving students.
The Best Play Award was grabbed by the play ‘Ye Daur Hai Ya Daur’; the Best Actor Award was conferred upon Zuhair Abbas Rizvi, whereas Shehzadi Bakhtawar was declared the Best Actress. Best Supporting Actor Award went to Qasim and the Best Supporting Actress Award was won by Faryal Ahmed Khan, whereas the winner of the Best Script Writer Award was Amber Altaf, and Junaid Khan Abbasi and Ahmer Jalil received the Best Director Award for their joint production.
