A local court on Thursday ordered the police to hand over the confiscated weapons of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) Chairman Bashir Qureshi, as the arms were found to be ‘legal’ after verification by the court. The nationalist leader and his aide Badruddin were arrested over possession of unlicensed weapons when Rangers picked them up on September 15 in Gulshan-e-Hadeed. They were booked under Section 13-D Pakistan Arms Ordinance at the Steel Town police station. On Thursday, The two alleged accused appeared before Additional District and Sessions Judge (Malir) Munawar Sultana and the court provided them the copies of witnesses’ statements and other prosecution documents. The court directed the authorities to return the legal weapons owned by the JSQM chief.
Qureshi and Badruddin would now appear before the court in the unlicensed weapons case on October 18. Through his counsel, Mohammad Khan Sheikh, the JSQM chief had moved an application for returning two sub-machines guns and a pistol that were declared legal after being verified. The court allowed the plea and directed the police the return the weapons back to the suspect. The police had also claimed that it had found illegal weapons at Qureshi’s residence and lodged another case under Section 13-E of Arms Ordinance.
