Aqeel and Jalil clinch men’s double title

Top seed Aqeel Khan and Jalil Khan clinched the men’s double title of the 27th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championship after beating Shahzad Khan and Yasir Khan by 2-0 here at PTF Tennis Complex on Friday. The final scoreline was 6-2 and 6-4.
Aqeel Khan and Jalil Khan displayed excellent serve volley game and got their opponents on their wrong foot and won the match without any resistance to lift the title. The top national outfits conceded just 2 and 3 games respectively in the two-set affair.
Meanwhile, in the men’s single event, all the top four seeded players Aqeel Khan, Jalil Khan, Yasir Khan and Muhammad Abid Mushtaq qualified for the semifinals after beating their respective opponents in the quarterfinals at the same venue. The semifinals will be played today. Top seed Aqeel Khan eliminated former Davis Cup player Shahzad Khan without any resistance in straight sets by 6-2 and 6-3. Second seed Jalil Khan played excellent tennis to thrash former Davis Cupper in another one-sided affair by 6-2 and 6-2.He will face his younger brother Yasir Khan in the semifinals. Third seed Yasir Khan beat Imran Shaukat in the third quarterfinal by 6-3 and 6-3 while in the fourth quarterfinal Muhammad Abid defeated Asim Shafik in the three set encounter. The scoreline of the match was 5-7, 6-1 and 6-0. Today he will face top seed Aqeel Khan in the semifinals.
Top seed Saba Aziz and Sara Mansoor moved into the ladies singles final after winning their semifinals in straight sets. Top seed Saba Aziz eliminated Iman Qureshi in straight sets by 6-1 and 6-1 while second seed Sara Mansoor defeated Meheq Khokhar by 6-0 and 6-1 in the second semifinal.
In the Boys’ Under-18 event, top seed Muhammad Abid and Ahmed Babar reached the final. In the semifinals, Muhammad Abid beat Faizan Khurram by 7-5, Retired while Ahmed Babar eliminated Muhammad Mudassir by 6-4 and 6-4.
In the Boys’ Under-14 event, Muhammad Mudasir and Hasnain Manzoor qualified for the final. In the semifinals, Muhammad Mudassir beat Hamza Bin Asif in straight set by 6-3 and 6-2 while Hasnain Manzoor defeated Talha Bin Asif by 6-0 and 6-0.
