Eminent physician in the United Kingdom (UK) and founder and chairperson of the UK’s Association of Pakistani Physicians & Surgeons (APPS) Dr Abdul Hafeez has said the Pakistani doctors are encouraged to avail themselves of advanced education opportunities in Britain.
He said he would be extending full support to all Pakistani doctors who wanted to enhance their education further in the UK.
He said this while addressing a seminar called “Postgraduate Medical Training Opportunities in the UK”, which was organised by APPS, in collaboration with Shifa College of Medicine and Shifa International Hospital, here on Wednesday.
A large number of doctors and medical students from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujar Khan, Peshawar, Abbottabad and other areas predicated attended the seminar.
Dr Hafeez discussed the job opportunities available in UK’s national health services as well as possible training and postgraduate exam facilities for Pakistani doctors.
He told doctors and medical students that the APPS firmly believed in putting best efforts to secure job opportunities in the UK for doctors from Pakistani.
“Though, because of new laws and high competition, job opportunities for Pakistani doctors have reduced significantly in the UK, but still there are chances that Pakistani doctors can get jobs and training opportunities to develop their careers,” he said, adding that Pakistani doctors can approach APPS for guidance in that regard.
Matiur Rahman, assistant professor at Shifa College of Medicine and pulmonologist consultant for Shifa International Hospital, who is also a member of the executive council and official spokesperson for APPS in Pakistan, informed different areas the APPS was working in.
He said the APPS was an educational and welfare and non-profit organisation that aimed at promoting the highest standards of patient-care and medical education in the United Kingdom and Pakistan.
Moreover, he said, one of the very important objectives of the organisation was to modernise the healthcare system of Pakistan by alleviating the suffering of patients, victims of natural disasters, catastrophes and armed conflicts by providing humanitarian aid.
He said Dr Abdul Hafeez would soon visit the flood-hit areas of Pakistan to deliver relief supplies among the flood victims. The APPS, for the first time, is conducting seminars in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad to guide Pakistani doctors and medical students about job and training opportunities in the UK.
