Afghanistan, source of proxy war between Pakistan and India: Musharraf

Former president Pervez Musharraf has said that Afghanistan has become the source of a proxy war between Pakistan and India. He was giving an interview to the Atlantic Media Company, at the Washington Ideas Forum on Thursday.
“In Afghanistan there is some kind of a proxy conflict going on between Pakistan and India. India is trying to create an anti-Pakistan Afghanistan. India’s vision is of dominating the region and its ambition is to create a weak Pakistan.” The former president added.
Musharraf said that many Afghan officials were trained by India. “Pakistan knows well that Afghanistan’s intelligence, Afghanistan’s diplomats, Afghanistan’s soldiers and army; they all go to India for training. Pakistan had offered them free of cost training but not even one man has come to Pakistan for training. “I have been called in India that I am a man of war, but I am a man for peace. I understand the ravages of war, which maybe very few people understand.” Musharraf added.
He said many Americans misunderstood the nature of Abottabad. “People misread that this was a garrison town. Abottabad is a town of about 500,000, roughly. This is a tourist resort. I am very sorry to say that I have seen this on television, but you don’t have walls around your houses. In Pakistan, every house has a wall. And I don’t see on television that anything is unusual in these walls. So I don’t see anything unusual in this house;” he added.

  1. Why wasn’t this revealed before ? How come our leaders & others bad mouth their own country & reveal their secrets just to impress a few western correspondents. Who will respect them ???

      • These are our political leaders. They are involved in pillage and plunder of Pakistan. But the situation will change through peaceful means without direct intervention of Pakistan Army in the near future. I am sure it will. (Observing and commenting sitting in UK).

  2. yes india persence in afganistan,giving them 2billons dollars,,karzai is friend of usa and india ,indian persance in Afganistanbecause usa want this,india openly saying many years on media channels again again they want to destroy pakistana d make pakistan weakfor his buisness and usa also walso want this and is selfish as saleh of yamen is,this is very shamfull such type of muslim leaders hearting on brothers around the world not learning from iraq war,pelestine etc.now usa has lost their economic power so usa and europe will hurt muslim world much because of their intrests as they are doing many years but this pakistan is not iraq,pelestine they will seein future if they will pressurise much they will see pakistan power,no muslim want aweak pakistan,today pakitan is only country which make all muslims happy and only power full country in muslim world.

    • Actually Pakistan is being destroyed in hands of Generals like Pervaiz Mush. not from Indians nor Americans or others .it is from Pakistani themselves . they did not took a lesson from east Pakistan now Bangladesh.. if they did good with Bengalies. there was not Bangladesh.there was a strong and prosper united Pakistan. Shame on these Generals like Perviaz Mush , Ayub and yaya khan,Tikka khan and their chamchaes…(followers)

      • I think your are forgetting people like Lieutenant General Mohammad Azam Khan (1960-62) and Maj General Muzzafar ud Din (1967-6)8 both Governors of East Pakistan now Bangaldesh and both well respected by Bengali populace.

        Ordinary common man in West Pakistan did not know what was happening in East Pakistan. Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto had lost the parliamentary elections and refused to accept the majority decision. He was raising slogans like "Idhar Ham Udhar Tum". Yahya Khanwanted to remain as the president and wouldn't settle for a political solution.

        It was a very sad situation the pain of which most Pakistanis still feel the pain.

  3. Musharraf is the main architect of using terrorism as a tool against India. He seems to have forgotten that. I don't think the U.S. should give him visa to visit here.

    From where I am -Europe- and with my very limited knowledge on this country, Pakistan looks like a cease poll made in a significant part of backward clans, religious zealots and fundamentalists, state officials backing and using terror, mostly run by a corrupted and warmongering military : not a really greet picture. I have some prejudices about India too, their caste system, girl murders, religious nutjobs, etc, but maybe not to that extend. I wish all the best for Pakistan and the good-willing and peace-loving people among the Pakistani people, but every time that I read their officials rhetoric and speech I can only think that this country go right into a wall.

    The civil society of Afghanistan don't like or trust Pakistan. That's why they go to India. One can not really blame the Afghans for that, because Pakistan's only contribution to Afghanistan, so far, has been Taliban and Al-Qaeda. India on the other hand build their Parliament, roads, hospitals, banks etc.

    Afghan liking for India is natural…

  6. Pakistan is its own enemy. It abused East Pakistanis; they left. Treat Afghanistan as their back yard; ill treat Baluchis, ill treat Muzahirs. Your own minority Sheites are hunted like animals, Christians, Hindus (they are not humans), have no rights. You take billions of dollars from US, and bomb their emabssy, make IEDs to blow up American soldiers. When Afghanistan signs a pact with India, you tell them to watch out. You hang a prime minister on trumped up charges. You murder a Governor and celebrate in the streets for a job well done. You hide Osama Bin Laden for 7 yrs. and say you didn't know of his being there. Let me give you the benifit of doubt. World is afraid of you.

    We Indians wants to live in peace and harmony… We don't like extremists .. A weak unstable and extremist neighbor is certainly not going to help India in achieving its dream to have a better future for its 120 Billion population.

  8. The reason why he thinks Afghanistan a proxy: "Pakistan army wants a safe heaven for it's terrorists in Afghanistan to keep its proxy war with India and other countries on and India wants a growing and democratic Afghanistan".

  10. We the sub continent people will keep fighting and west would be benefited. India needs to realize that without Pakistan they can't fulfill their dreams. If Pakistan has a foreign created problem on its territory like baluchistan, then surely India will have difficulties too. So need is to be get close to each other rather to balme each other and be part of proxy war. Who created the Talibns, Surely USA not anyone else to defeat soviets in Afghanistan. The moment they achieved their Aim , they planned to eliminate them and still trying to do it. So its not Pakistan who has created extremists but America, and only for their own win. Pakistan has survived 65 years with so many enemies and lost 35,000 people and sustained loss of economy worth 80 billion dollars in WAT. So who has been fighting the war. Now they claim that Pakistan is playing the proxy war. I wish that other countries could have a glimps of this war, so that they come to know who is fighting actually.

  11. The only equal to Pakistan army & ISI in terms of brutalities & trechery commited on humanity is Hitler's Nazi army. The Pakistani army has lot of similarities with the Nazi way of thought : 1) Like the Nazi's Pakistanis are very proud of their fairer skin colour compared to Indians & Bangladeshis. 2) Like the Nazis who massacred 6 million Jews in gas chambers, the Pakistani army butchered 3 million Hindus & Bengali Muslims in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). 3) Like Nazis who dreamed to be world conquorors despite a weak economy, the Pakistani army will not hesitate to destroy Pakistan if that helps it in hoisting its flag over heads of Indians, Afghans, Bengalis etc… Total disbanding of this maneater war mongering army of cannibalistic Major-Generals will redeem the earth.
