‘Sindh govt trying its best to alleviate sufferings of rain-hit people’

The Sindh government is trying its best to minimise the sufferings of rain- and flood- affected people of the province, provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Wednesday.
He was talking to a delegation of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) officer bearers from Thatta and Badin districts at his office, according to an official statement.
The minister pointed out that Badin was district worst affected by the recent torrential rains and flood.
“The government is utilising all available means to provide immediate relief to the affected families and trying to rehabilitate them as early as possible,” he said
“Sixty seven relief camps are operative in Badin district, where 17, 432 affected people have been accommodated. So far, 44,067 tents, 523,386 packs of food items, 17,862 mosquito nets and 1,751 water purification units have been distributed among the people there.”
Memon said that the government believe in serving the masses without discrimination and that is why on the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari, all MNAs, MPAs, ministers and office-bearers of the PPP are engaged in relief and rehabilitation work.
“The rehabilitation of more than 8.9 million people is a big task for the government and complete cooperation from philanthropists, nongovernmental organisations and the society as a whole is needed,” he added
The PPP office-bearers of both districts informed the minister about relief work being carried out in their respective areas.
