Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday his party wanted to bring a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani but it did not have the required number of votes in parliament. “It will be easy to get rid of the government through a peaceful constitutional change if the PML-Quaid parts ways with them,” he told a delegation of the Council of National Affairs at his Jati Umra residence.
Nawaz admitted that his party was talking to the PML-Q but denied he had contacted its president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. He had previously refused to talk to the PML-Q calling them backstabbers. In case a no-confidence move is made against Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, a new candidate from a party other than the PML-N would be needed, Nawaz added.
COALITION GOVERNMENT: He said his party was ready to be part of the coalition government led by the Pakistan People’s Party if it could come up with a workable solution to the country’s problems. “Considering the track record of the government, I have come to the conclusion that it is incorrigible,” Nawaz said, “and if it stays in power any longer, it could be disastrous for the country.” He hinted at India’s involvement in the Karachi unrest and said Pakistan was not involved in the recent terrorist attack in Kabul.
“The series of mistakes made by Pervez Musharraf in the war on terror is being continued by this government,” he said, “and the PML-N is ready to help the government and the military to get Pakistan out of this situation.” Nawaz said the resolution adopted by the Parliament in October 2008 and May 2011 must be implemented. “If the government had been firm on the issue of Raymond Davis, Pakistan would not have been in this situation.” He said the resolution adopted by All Parties’ Conference should be brought in the parliament.
