The Punjab University Teachers Front, in a meeting at the Institute of Education and Research on Monday, unanimously passed a resolution against the manhandling of varsity’s security company commander by the activists of Islami Jamiat-e-Taliba (IJT).
The meeting participants said some IJT activists were disturbing the varsity’s environment. They said the IJT activists, with the help of “external elements”, had been involved in torturing varsity employees and students and had also damaged the university property. They said it was unfortunate that the criminals involved in the firing incident at the house of Physics Department chairman and Syndicate member Professor Shaukat Ali had not been arrested.
Talking about the congregation announced by the IJT from October 15-17, the participants said allowing IJT to organise the convention would encourage other student organisations to organise such events, which would cause serious damage to the academic atmosphere of the varsity.
