Ebad-backed KWSB MD resigns ‘to avoid inquiry’

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan-backed Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) Managing Director (MD) Misbahuddin Fareed submitted his resignation to the Sindh chief secretary’s office on Monday, Pakistan Today has learnt.
According to sources, Fareed has resigned to avoid an official investigation into the Rs 600 million he had hurriedly released for a federally-funded project whose process of tender is still under way.
Sources said the federal government had recently initiated a major project to clean polluted seawater through reverse osmosis plants in Lyari, Bin Qasim and Keamari towns.
As per the Sindh government’s business rules, the KWSB MD is supposed to submit his resignation to the Local Government (LG) Department; however, he bypassed the rules when he submitted it to the chief secretary’s office, the sources added.
A senior official in the LG department said, “I don’t know about the KWSB MD’s resignation because it hasn’t been submitted to us.”
Interestingly, KWSB acting chairman Haji Munawwar Ali Abbas does not have any information regarding the MD’s resignation either.
The KWSB MD was supposed to inform his seniors before making the decision to quit, but he failed to do so, Abbas said.
Sources said the MD had held a detailed meeting with the KWSB’s senior officials prior to tendering his resignation.
