The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has bifurcated its Revenue Department into two wings in an attempt to makes its anti-encroachment drive more effective and result-oriented.
The project directorate of Surjani Town has also been put under the administrative control of the Revenue Department. These decisions were made at a meeting chaired by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Roshan Ali Shaikh at his office on Monday. The meeting was attended by Executive District Officer (EDO) Revenue Ganwar Leghari, Additional EDO Revenue Matanat Ali Khan, Qazi Jan Mohammad and officers of the defunct KDA, KMC and the Revenue Department. Sources told Pakistan Today that the additional EDO revenue would monitor the anti-encroachment campaign carried out on the defunct KMA and KDA lands while the drive on the land of the Board of Revenue would be overseen by some other officer. Both these officers would be answerable to EDO Revenue Ganwar Leghari. The DCO directed the officials that measures should be taken for the removal of encroachments on government lands in the remits of city government. Shaikh also instructed the defunct KMC and KDA to launch the anti-encroachment campaign on the major roads and corridors of the city so that any hurdles in the smooth flow of traffic could be removed.
Separately, the anti-encroachment squad of the CDGK recovered 220 acres of encroached land costing Rs 4 billion from the possession of land grabbers in Gadap Town on Monday. During the operation, all illegal constructions in Memon Goth were razed.
