Gunmen attacked a bus carrying Shia Muslims in the outskirts of Quetta on Tuesday, killing 13 people, police said.
“Four gunmen riding two motorcycles opened fire on bus in the outskirts of Quetta,” said senior local police official Hamid Shakeel.
“The death toll has risen to 13. Two of the injured who were in critical condition died in hospital,” he said after initially putting the death toll at 10.
He said the bus was carrying local passengers from Hazara town to Hazarganji area in outskirts of Quetta.
Police said that they escorted other members of the Shia community to the same area minutes before the attack.
“Another convoy of Shia community passed from the scene in police protection moments before the attack. We did not know that more Shia Muslims were travelling in this bus,” said Shakeel.
