The Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday named chief selector Mohsin Hasan Khan as interim chief coach of the national team for the Sri Lanka series to be played in the UAE.
The pre-tour camp of the Pakistan team will be held at Lahore from October 10 to 13 under Mohsin’s supervision while Naveed Akram Cheema is the manager of the tea.
Former Australian player Dean Jones is being tipped as the next coach of the team but reports from board say that nothing is final as yet and the likely chance is that the PCB’s coach recruiting committee will be approaching former South African coach Mickey Arthur in the days to come and Saqlain Mushtaq might also get a chance to become part of the coaching team. The committee comprising Intikhab Alam, Col (retd) Noushad and Zaheer Abbas have also lined up Aaqib Javed, Ijaz Ahmed and Moin Khan among the final list of coaches.
Meanwhile the PCB has also announced the team management for the series in the UAE and Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh. According to a press release of the board, Naveed Akram Cheema will be performing Hajj this year so he will assume the charge of manager with the start of the Sri Lanka ODI series (November 11) and will continue as till tour of Bangladesh. Naushad will take charge as Associate Manager for both the Sri Lanka series and Bangladesh series. While Cheema will be performing Hajj, Naushad will assume the charge of manager for the three-Test series against Sri Lanka. Mohsin Khan will be coach for Pakistan only for the Sri Lanka series. The PCB is in the process of appointing a full time coach, said an official of the board.
All other team management will remain the same for both the series.
