A flood affected woman gave birth to a child under the tree on the gate of district headquarters hospital (DHQ) Umerkot on Sunday.
She accused the respective lady doctor of ousting her from the labour room, with relatives staging a demonstration against hospital authorities on Sunday. Disher Oad, Zareena’s husband, said they were living at the Cheel Band relief camp where his wife started having labour pains. Given no health facility was available, relatives took her to DHQ Umerkot. Lady doctor Khalida Shaikh was on call and was called to deal with the case. He said she prescribed medicines worth Rs 4000 which they arranged.
“Upon returning with the medicines at the labour room, we discovered the lady doctor had returned home and refused to pick up the phone,” he said. Later, LHV Faryal Qaimkhani asked them to leave the labour room and Zareena had to give birth to a child under a tree with severe complications and excessive bleeding. After the birth, relatives staged a protest which included Shahid Maree, Abdullah Gahelro, Rani oad, Laila, Ali Nawaz, Nazeeran, Haleema and others which forced hospital authorities to shift Zareena to the labour room. Medical Superintendent Dr Padam Singh said he has taken notice of the matter and issued a show cause notice to the lady doctor (on contract) and the LHV.
