Health experts and medical institutions have appreciated the government’s decision to check unethical health-related commercials on television channels. Pakistan Electronic Media and Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), on the special directive of the prime minister, imposed a fine of Rs 1 million each to 10 TV channels for running advertisements promoting unethical and hazardous medical practices. Among those who hailed the decision were newly elected Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) Chairman Khawaja Muhammad Asad and a large number of medical professionals. Muhammad Asad thanked the prime minister and the Cabinet Division secretary, the drugs controller (registration) and the PEMRA chairman for taking the decision.
