Mumtaz Qadri has been given death sentence for murdering Governor Punjab Salman Taseer.
Qadri said that he killed Taseer because he (Salman Taseer) made blasphemous comments.
“I killed the governor because he was supporting a blasphemer and demanding the repeal of blasphemy laws,” said Mumtaz Qadri.
Qadri, a police constable was deputed with the governor as part of his security team. On 4th January in Islamabad, while on duty of protecting Governor Punjab, Qadri shot him from a close range.
