Pakistan Muslim League (N) has filed an adjournment motion against the increase in petrol prices at the secretariat of the National Assembly.
The motion says that the government has burdening the people with additional expenses to make up its losses. This is unjust and unfair and the price increases should be withdrawn, the motion says.
The adjournment motion pleads the Speaker of the National Assembly to stop the usual business of the Assembly so that this vital issue could be discussed.

I am a lower middle class self-employed businessman. I am not entitled to Petrol and utility bills from government or any employer. Increase in petrol prices does pinch but the fact of the matter is that we have cheapest petrol in the sub-continent. We should be prepared to bear the cost. In fact, the government should levy more tax. This may look surprising coming from a common citizen. We desperately need to pay more taxes in order to eliminate our dependence on foreign aid. Mere slogans cannot be productive. We should be ready to lower our standard of living, if need be.
According to some estimates, tax evasion is to the tune of Rs 5 billion per day, corruption is Rs 3 billion per day and foreign aid is only Rs 0.5 billion per day. So, if we are prepared to make some effort, we can get rid of scourge of foreign aid. Till then, we cannot stand up as a sovereign nation in true sense of the term. Hitherto, we as a nation have only been talking and when it comes to taking responsibility, we always find excuses to evade on one pretext or the other. Primary reason is corruption of rulers. Well, we can vote conscientously when we get the opportuniy next time. If we do not vote honestly, we have no right to expect it from our elected representatives.
Our basic approach should be to think what each one of us can do rather then thinking what others should do.
