The 12th International Symposium on Advanced Materials concluded here on Friday wherein eminent scientists from all over the world had assembled to share their experiences.
The biennial event was inaugurated on September 26 at the Quaid-e-Azam University. Eminent scientists, engineers and researchers from all over the world presented around 217 research papers and discussed and shared their findings, according to press statement issued here.
Addressing at the concluding ceremony, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Dr Ansar Parvez said the dazzling development in the world of materials were indicating clearly the future trends of science and technology.
“The nations that are abreast with these challenges will surely be benefiting from the future outcome while the others will simply be left out. We, after all live in a world where our sorrows and joys are bound to affect each other. We must, therefore, work in closer harmony for our mutual benefits and well-being. Symposia like these surely provide an excellent opportunity for establishing closer ties, sharing experiences and finding solutions to common problems,” Parvez added.
He also pointed out that Pakistan was facing an acute shortage of energy and hence there was a greater need to find new alternative sources to overcome that deficiency. He emphasised for identifying materials that could be beneficial in the swift construction and operation of small hydroelectric plants.
“Similarly, a greater demand lies for metallurgical products for supplying the basic power generation and distribution infrastructure, which has invariably created more demand for raw materials,” he said.
Chairman of the symposium Karim Ahmed said the advanced materials effectively had filled the country’s progress landscape and were already predicting the nation’s future.
“We can not afford to stay behind as the progress of industry and infrastructure depends upon the adoption, promotion and invention of new materials. We have to work in close collaboration with the world materials scientists’ community to search for effective solutions to our design and engineering problems. It is in this spirit that we have been organizing this Symposium for more than the last two decades,” Ahmed added.
Secretary of the symposium Dr Shaheed informed the gathering that the prime objective of the symposium was to provide a common platform to eminent material scientists from all over the world to discuss in detail, work out plans and exchange ideas with local counterparts in their respective fields. He expressed his gratitude to the participants as well as the organising committee for making the symposium a success.
