The Punjab government has postponed punishing those Punjab Police officers who had attended an “Iftar dinner” on a special request by Carmella Conroy, sources told Pakistan Today on Friday. Sources said before leaving Pakistan, Conroy met Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and personally requested him to not take action against those officers who had attended an Iftar dinner hosted by her. The officials included DIG Training Arif Nawaz, Punjab Constabulary Deputy Commandant, DIG Khadim Hussain, SP VVIP Security Waqas Akram, SSP Elite Force, Major (r) Shahryar, SSP Headquarters, Major (r) Nasrullah, SP Headquarters, Rommel Akram, SSP Sohai Sakher and SSP Admin Tariq Abbas Quraishi.
The sources said US officials had also requested the interior minister to not take action against the officials. Leslie Goodman, spokeswoman of the US Consulate, however, said she could not comment on the issue. The aforesaid officers were found guilty of violating the rules and regulations relating to the conduct of police officers and Punjab Inspector General of Police Javed Iqbal took serious notice of the issue. The IG requested both the Punjab government and the federal government to take action against the guilty officers.
