Afghan rugby seven’s team arrives

The Afghan national seven’s team arrived in Lahore on Friday on the invitation of the Pakistan Rugby Union to participate in the Azadi Cup Rugby Tournament. The team will take part in the Rose Petel seven’s cup and will compete with 12 of the top clubs of Pakistan including Police, Army, Lahore, DHA and AIT, MCB, LUMS, BNU teams among others.
Afghan Rugby Federation general secretary Omar Aziz who is also the team manger on this first historic tour for the Afghan team said: “We would like to thank the Pakistan Rugby Union for there kind invitation. This is the first and a great opportunity for us, a beginning of a new era for Afghan federation as well as a bridge building between two rugby unions, the Afghan and Pakistan. I also bring a message from Afghanistan National Olympic Committee (NOC) president Gen Zaheer Akebr. We hope to continue close sporting relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan not only with rugby but also other Olympic sport. We are encouraged that rugby has been included in the Olympic Games and we in Afghanistan hope to promote to the fullest extend this tour is a the beginning of many things to come as far as Afghan rugby is concerned.
Javed Rehmani the captain of the Afghan team who is also a weightlifter and won the title Strong man competition of Afghanistan. he would like to thank the Pakistan rugby union the host and Punjab rugby and Punjab Olympic associations to host such an event and for inviting us to this tournament and for the extra coaching provided by the Pakistan rugby union. He would like build on this relationship hoping that there are more events such as this and would like to invite the Pakistan rugby union to Afghanistan for matches and tournament in Afghanistan.
Yesterday the afghan team where given a full course of laws of the game and given on the on ground training by PRU coaching staff. Punjab Rugby Association Secretary general Khuram Haroon coach the Afghan team and giving lectures about Rugby.
