‘12 highway robbers killed, 84 held this year’

Twelve highway robbers were killed and 84 arrested by police in various parts of the Sindh this year, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Wajid Durrani was informed during a meeting held at the at the Central Police Office on Friday to review the law and order situation in the province
Those arrested or killed carried head money totalling up to Rs 42.6 million.
According to a press release, the participants of the meeting were informed that crime rate on highways declined by 40 percent during the year due to intensive patrolling and setting of pickets on highways and raids on the hide-outs of criminals.
The IGP was informed that police also registered 32 cases against influential landlords for holding jirgas to resolve disputes in their areas in the Sukkur region and action was taken to discourage this culture.
Expressing satisfaction on the overall and order situation in the province, Durrani stressed upon police officers to adopt pro-active approach and conduct raids on hide-outs aggressively. He also directed senior officers to prepare a list of police stations and police buildings damaged due to the recent heavy rains and flood along with relevant details about the feasibility of renovating them. He also directed them to streamline the process of promotions and fill the existing vacancies. The IGP also told them to expedite the process of dealing with pending appeal cases on merit.
