Former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif has appealed to Shahid Afridi to reconsider his decision of retirement from international cricket and return to the game. At a time when former skipper Shahid Khan Afridi is sending mixed signals about his return to the international scene, Rashid Latif believes that it is time the all-rounder should reviewed his decision.
“Spectators turned up in huge number to see Afridi (in a domestic event) which is testimony to his immense popularity. The public has given its verdict, now the ball is in Afridis’ court and he should respond positively,” he said on a private TV channel.
Apart from the fan following, he (Afridi) has the talent to justify his place and provide the team the right balance as well”, he said. Shahid Afridi led the Karachi Dolphins to victory against Islamabad Leopards on Thursday night.
On May 30th this year, Afridi announced his retirement from international cricket, claiming that he was maltreated by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
After harsh criticism board officials, the PCB suspended Afridi’s central contract, fined him 4.5 million rupees, and revoked his NOC which allowed Afridi to play for Hampshire. Afridi filed a petition with the Sindh High Court to overturn the sanctions, and later, after an out-of-court settlement, he withdrew his petition and the PCB reinstated his NOC.
