Hubbard Parent Stock arranged a function in connection with its successful completion of 20 years of operations in Pakistan. LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik, Pakistan Poultry Association Chairman Abdul Hayee Mehta, Grand Parent Poultry Chairman Abdul Basit, and other members of HPS were present there. In Pakistan, poultry grand parent operations are being conducted in collaboration with Hubbard, the world leader in production of parent stock for poultry meat broilers. Poultry grand is currently catering to 60 per cent of the total demand of country’s poultry market for broilers.
Grand Parent Poultry Chairman Abdul Basit said that India is protecting its local industry by clamping higher import duty, while the government of Pakistan has reduced the import duty from 50 per cent to 25 per cent. He said that there should be higher duty structure or complete ban on the import of all such goods that are being produced locally.
Other speakers said providing cheaper and quality poultry products require government’s support, a special electricity tariff with GST exemption must be announced for poultry farms, state department should stop interfering in free market price mechanism and incentives in fright services from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad at preferential lower rates to help boost exports of all perishable commodities, including hatching eggs and day-old chicks, should be provided. In addition, there is a vast potential for exports of value-added chicken products to European Union, steps should be taken to recognise Pakistan as “halal” food exporter.
