The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) has nabbed 17 people during the last week over their alleged involvement in robberies, thefts, frauds and minting money from simpletons. Two vehicles, one motorbike, gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 1.5 million, two rifles and two pistols were also recovered from their possession.
The development came after Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muhammad Yousuf Malik assigned the task to SP Investigation Ch Liaqat Ali to ensure arrest of various criminals involved in crime of heinous nature. Liaqat Ali constituted a special team headed by In-charge CIA Bahsir Ahmed Noon for purpose, a police spokesman said on Thursday. The team succeeded in busting four gangs and arrested 17 criminals.
Five dacoits of a gang were arrested for their involvement in snatching valuables from people at gun point and looting various houses. They have been identified as Faisal Khalil, Aftab Hussain, Mubashir Ehtesham, Wajid Mehmud and Muhammad Farooq. They confessed committing dacoities at the houses in the capital city. Javed Akhtar, Mehr Bilal Hussain and Mehr Muhammad Qasim are the members of another gang who cheated citizens and deprived them of their valuables. Police also recovered a Toyota Corolla (ICT QG 483) and another vehicle IDS-4386 from their possession.
The CIA also arrested four thieves identified as Saleem, Azmat, Asghar and Iqbal Hussain. They confessed to ransack the house of Muhammad Ali Sheikh, House No182 Street No 61 Sector F-10/3, and taking away gold ornaments, mobile phones worth Rs 900,000.
The CIA team also held some pickpockets and thieves against whom FIRs have been registered with Industrial Area, Shalimar and Kohsar police stations. They include Saddam Shah, Zeeshan alias Gonga, Waqas Shah, Waheed and Nadeem Ahmed.
